About Me

I am the Lead Pastor of Destiny Church in Leesburg, VA. My wife, Pam and I, along with a dozen other people planted Destiny in 1999. From the very beginning, I had a vision of a community church that would reach people who had written off church, or people who knew very little about Jesus Christ and His church.

I received my undergraduate education from Southeastern University and Shenandoah Conservatory. I earned an M.A. in Organizational Leadership and Divinity from Regent University. I also served as Chaplain to the Washington Redskins from 1982 until 1988 under the leadership of Coach Joe Gibbs. (The Glory Years!)

However, during all of this ministry, I paid the bills by starting a business in 1984 that continues to sustain my family along with more than thirty other employees. I had a dream to start a business that would provide income so that I could serve God’s Kingdom without any cost to the church. God has truly answered that request.

My ministry passion is to be able to help start new churches in order to reach more people for Jesus Christ. Pam and I have been involved in planting four churches, it has been extremely rewarding. My father and grandfather gave over a century of ministry to starting churches and making disciples throughout Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. I simply want to build on that legacy.

My greatest life blessing is my family. Pam and I have been married for more than twenty-five years. We have four children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, one granddaughter, and a grandson on the way!

Who Am I Trying To Reach With My Blog?

I want to reach business people who have a heart for the kingdom of God. I want to have discussion about what it means to use business as a tool for ministry. Jesus is the model. He built his following primarily out of business people…fishermen, a doctor, tax collectors, and perhaps a banker. Note…there were no lawyers. J I think He is still doing that today. I think business people make awesome church planters, and this is the least expensive way to start churches. And I think business people can help us figure out how to take the gospel to people who have no intention of attending our churches.

Here are some of the topics I write about:

  • Business people engaging in ministry
  • Business people starting churches
  • Bi-vocational ministry and the value of that
  • How to do two things at a time

I normally publish one new post per week. To make sure you don’t miss my newest posts, you can subscribe via e-mail

Why I blog

I truly believe the picture of ministry needs to change in America. Don’t get me wrong. I believe fully in ministry as a vocation, but not for everyone. In fact, I have seen people leave business for vocational ministry and actually walk away from their greatest harvest field. Here are some big issues that I would love to cover in this blog:

The Equalization of Calling to Business and Ministry

I have sensed God’s call to both with equal passion and purpose. The wall between the sacred and the secular must come down. Until that happens, business people will be marginalized and discouraged from this powerful opportunity to see people come to Christ.

Moving the Hearts of Business People from Money to Ministry

With a simple change of the heart, massive amounts of money can be moved into the kingdom of God, and the Great Commission can be completed.

Better Business, Better Ministry

This is the sub-heading of my blog.  How can we be really good at both at the expense of neither? Can you have a successful business, a successful ministry, and healthy family and not lose your mind? There are days when I have wondered. But I believe the answer is “Yes!”

We Must Constantly Learn and Grow

I am constantly seeking to learn new ways to accomplish ministry through business and apply them to my life. One thing I have learned through my experience and relationships is there are many other people just like me who simply need to dream the dream.
